Lotus temple as it is called is one of the finest examples of excellent architectural magnificence. At the first look it makes you spell bound and it would be difficult for you to imagine more beautiful structure than this one. From a distance it looks like someone has placed a white paper flower on the ground but actually it is a majestic structure in the shape of a lotus flower. In the night when the temple is illuminated with hidden lights the temple looks unbelievably striking.This well recognised structure of Delhi is located in Kalkaji near Nehru Place in South Delhi. You must be wondering who is the deity of this temple then let me tell you that it is a Baha’i House of Worship built in the year 1986. Baha’i religion (faith) founded by Bahaullah is the youngest religion in the world with an aim to unite everyone in one common faith.The construction of this Baha\u2019i temple was completed on 13th<\/sup> November 1986<\/strong> while it was opened for general public on 14th<\/sup> December 1986. The height of the temple is 34.27 meter while the diameter is about 70 meters. Fariborz Sahba is a Persian architect who now lives in Canada designed this temple. Flint and Neill are the structural engineers responsible for this stunning creation. It is built in Expressionist style of architecture. Its wonderful architecture has won it many awards and is responsible for the talk of world for long time by way of being featured in newspapers and magazines.The best part of this worship place that I liked the most is that there is no restriction for any religion here. Anybody can come here and can meditate or recite or chant his religious mantras without disturbing others. No matter which God you follow or no matter whether you are a Sikh, Hindu, Muslim or Christian. There is no deity in the temple but just a serene place where you can meditate your own god without any objection.It\u2019s amazing and I do not have a word to explain my gratitude for such a nice place where god is only one but can be in different forms. It is one of the most neat, clean and peaceful ambience with freedom of religion or should I say where all religions get united without any hitch. It is really beautiful not only physically but soulfully as well. It is a must visit place on your list of excursions in Delhi. In the temple there is a huge hall where you need to keep quiet. Here you can sit for some time and feel the peace and beauty of the place.The gardens outside the temple are very well trimmed and absolutely clean. There are nine ponds surrounding the lotus temple. It gives an impression like the lotus is floating in the pond. From the interiors when you see the top of the temple you can notice the symbol of the greatest name designed exceptionally beautiful. The petals of the flower are made using 27 free standing marble stones in group of three to make nine sides of the flower. You will be surprised to know that the white marble that is used on the surface of the worship house is brought in from Penteli Mountain in Greece. The entire premise is spread over an area of 26 acres. There is an information centre in the premises that has the model of the temple. It is one of the most visited architectural masterpieces in the world even leaving behind the Taj Mahal the seventh wonder of world and Eiffel Tower.Indira Gandhi international airport is the nearest airport and Nizamuddin railway station is the nearest rail head.
