Pune Camp-The Elite Region of Pune

Pune camp is located in Pune city under district Pune in the western region of Maharashtra state. It is also known as Pune Cantonment and in Marathi language it is called Pune Chavani.  As the name suggest it is a military cantonment and was started in the year 1817 to accommodate the troops of British Indian Army. This area has several military establishments. Time to time it was expanded as and when required by submerging the nearby areas. It is almost two centuries old and that is why it has very good ancient architectural landmarks of that time. With the time many civilians came to the camp area to reside and were encouraged to come as they provided the necessary services to the cantonment troops. The headquarters of southern command are situated in Camp Pune. Pune Cantonment comes under the zone II of Pune police.

 

Camp is considered to be a posh and fully developed part of Pune. It is complete urban area which has everything to offer.  The areas that come under Camp flag are Pune Cantonment, Koregaon park, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Dhole- Patil Road, Melodina Road, etc. Today Camp area is one of the most prestigious and expensive place to live in. It is very well connected to the other parts of city. Pune railway station, bus station and the international airport of Pune are just in its vicinity.

 

Koregaon park is a place which an international tourist destination for years because of the OSHO commune which is a world famous meditation centres and prestigious landmark of Pune. Mahatma Gandhi Road is the most popular Road among youngsters and popular for its shops, restaurants and cafes. The world fashion comes alive on this road as you get the best national and international brands in fashion here. From best book stores, best music stores, branded clothing outlets, five star hotels, best cafeterias and fast food joints to the best multi cuisine restaurants and entertainment centres, you will find everything here. The pubs and discos with multi cuisine restaurants make it the perfect place for young generation to enjoy. It also houses many commercial, corporate and office spaces and all this make it the Manhattan of Pune city.  The National War Memorial represents the memory of the Indian Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives during war time. There are 3 high schools and 6 primary schools under the Pune cantonment board.
The Armed Forces Medical College is a prestigious institute in Pune city. Apart from these there are many private schools and colleges are serving in the area.

Health services in and around the Camp area are as follows:
• Cantonment General Hospital by Pune cantonment Board
• Ruby Hall Clinic (Private hospital)
• Jahangir Hospital (Private Hospital)
• Sassoon Hospital (Government Hospital)

 

To commute in this area and from this area to other parts of Pune one can use PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited) bus services, auto rickshaws or self vehicles.  The roads in this region are in good condition. The Camp area is really full of life all the time whether day or night as people here are always in action and enjoying the time. The real estate is quite an expensive affair in  Camp due to complete urban development that took place years ago and now Pune Camp has become one of the most elite and important regions of Pune city.
